Pat Nevin says Everton should be disappointed if they miss out on European football

Everton have ambitions to qualify for Europe this season.

Speaking to 5 Live’s Football Daily podcast, Pat Nevin has admitted that Everton should be disappointed if they fail to qualify for Europe this season considering how well they are playing.

The former winger said: “This is a team who, if they don’t get European football at the end of this season, it will be a massive disappointment. All Evertonian’s know they are good enough.”

Everton are one of the best up-and-coming sides in the Premier League, and they sit just six points off the top four following Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Bournemouth.

In Romelu Lukaku, Ross Barkley, Gerard Deulofeu and John Stones, the Toffees possess arguably four of the best potential stars in the division, and Roberto Martinez has them playing a style of football which suits the players.

The Merseyside club have lost only three games all season, and they do appear to be on the rise in the search for European football.

Their recent history has seen them flirting with the latter stages of the Europa League, and whilst winning that competition would be impressive, Martinez should seriously consider Everton as top four contenders.

Now that Chelsea are struggling, there is a top four spot open which people believe either Spurs or Liverpool will fill. However, Everton are just two points behind their Merseyside rivals, and have been overlooked as potential Champions League qualifiers.

Nevin believes that Everton have the ability to qualify got Europe this season, and the former winger believes that not getting back into continental competition would be a disappointing season.
