Newcastle United's struggles have been emphasised by the recent mini resurgence of Sunderland.
Sunderland have won their last two games in a row, a big achievement for them considering their poor start to the campaign, and after switching managers there is belief they can avoid relegation and climb up the table.
Newcastle meanwhile have conceded eight goals on their way to losing their last two matches, and pressure is growing on Steve McClaren.
Former Sunderland star Micky Gray is keen that Newcastle retain McClaren's services, as like most fans of the Black Cats, he is enjoying seeing their struggles play out.
He took to Twitter on Monday to plead with Newcastle to keep the faith in their under fire manager.
What do you mean things can't get any worse at Newcastle? If it ain't broke don't fix it. McLaren for manager of the season @talksportmdl— michael gray (@mickygray33) December 1, 2015
The fact Newcastle are below Sunderland is just as damaging as being in the relegation zone itself, and if being the subject of mockery from their rivals is not enough to make Mike Ashley dispense with McClaren, it's unclear quite what it might take.
