Manchester City comfortably beat Hull City this week but what did Blues fans make of the French international's contribution?
Manchester City continued their pursuit of what would be an unprecedented quadruple when they overcame Hull City 4-1 in the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday evening.
Goals from Wilfried Bony, Kelechi Iheanacho and a brace from Kevin De Bruyne ensured Andrew Robertson’s late strike for the Tigers was a mere consolation, but it was another player’s performance that had plenty of Blues fans talking at the final whistle.
With Vincent Kompany out injured the defensive responsibility currently rests on the shoulders of Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala, and the latter’s performance was not exactly greeted with enthusiasm.
Mangala arrived at City with a big reputation and a long list of potential suitors, but for every good performance there has been a less than convincing one, such as his horror show in the 4-1 defeat to Liverpool last month.
After the match against Hull we took to Twitter to see what City fans thought of the Frenchman’s latest performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
Otamendi & Mangala played together at Porto. Did our scouts REALLY watch them both & say 'Yeah, the French lad, pay whatever it takes'?— LongsightM13 (@LongsightBlues) December 1, 2015
@garydean51 I'm not sure Bobby Moore would make Mangala look good!— Andrew Wolf (@wolfie_mcfc) December 1, 2015
@mcfc_lw I can't believe how bad Mangala is and how little he is improving.— Loz Newman (@LozNewman8) December 1, 2015
@wendy1704 I thought the pair looked excellent. Otamendi the finished product but Mangala still learning— Northernpowerhaus (@nthrnpowerhaus) December 1, 2015
We need to do something about Mangala...— Sir Write-a-Lot (@KINGJeremyIII) December 1, 2015
