Taking to his personal Twitter account, Harry Redknapp has tweeted a message of support to Newcastle boss Steve McClaren, admitting his belief that he is the right man for the job at St James’ Park.
Not heard anything about Newcastle, they’ve got a great manager in Steve. I’ve worked with him, he’s excellent. I’m sure he’ll get it right.— Harry Redknapp (@Redknapp) December 2, 2015
McClaren looks to be under increasing pressure on Tyneside, with his Newcastle team second last in the Premier League table despite being one of the biggest spending sides in the Europe over the summer transfer window.
The Magpies have won just two of 14 games, and it is hard to see where the next point will come from given their recent performance levels.
Few players are performing to the level expected of them, and some are seemingly already resigned to a likely relegation - making it all the more likely.
This has led to calls for McClaren to lose his job and be replaced by someone who can keep the Tyneside giants in the top flight, but Redknapp believes he is the perfect man for the job.
He has confirmed he has yet to hear anything about a potential sacking, and has called the former Middlesbrough and Derby boss an ‘excellent’ manager.
Considering how Newcastle have performed this season, it is hard to agree with such a statement, but he did prove with both Middlesbrough and Derby that he can be a fantastic coach of players.
However, he does not look suited to the tough relegation battle that the Magpies are in, and maybe it would now be wise for Newcastle to start looking for a replacement for McClaren.
