Gerry Francis says these two players are Tottenham's weakness, has he made a mistake?

West Bromwich Albion coach Gerry Francis has a theory on how to beat Tottenham, but has he given their approach away?

Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Gerry Francis is plotting how to beat the club this weekend as part of his coaching role with West Bromwich Albion.

The Baggies host Spurs in a Saturday 3pm kick-off, and Francis, a first team coach at the club, told the Birmingham Mail he believes he has identified a weakness.

He argues that the defensive lapses from the full-back positions, held by Kyle Walker and Danny Rose, will be an area his side seek to take an advantage.

He said: "Liverpool and Tottenham are very good attacking sides, they push forward with their full-backs and leave some space in behind.

"If you've got the pace to get in behind when you've got the turnover, you can utilise playing into the channels and causing teams problems.

"We got our second goal against Arsenal playing that same way with Salomon [Rondon] running into the channels. Certainly we'll be looking at trying to counter-attack against these teams."

Both Danny Rose and Kyle Walker have played well this season for Spurs, with Charlie Nicholas telling Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday at the weekend that he was impressed by their pace.

It's this speed which enables them to get up and down the flanks, and makes it more difficult for teams to get in behind them and take advantage.

Whether you agree with Francis' assessment or not, in expressing his club's game plan publicly, he may have made a mistake, as should Tottenham listen to his comments they will be able to prepare even more intently on making sure they are not undone in this way.

The 63-year-old is shrewd though, and a potential bluff can't be ruled out, that he is hoping his words have a desired effect that Tottenham do not send their full-backs forward and cause them danger.
