The Irish striker has been suspended for two weeks.
Celtic have handed out their punishment to striker Anthony Stokes after his recent Twitter outburst, with the forward suspended by the club for two weeks.
The Irishman tweeted after travelling with the squad to the game in Inverness to then be left out of the team for the game.
His foul-mouthed tweet was not a smart idea but was born out of understandable frustration.
Stokes has been completely frozen out by Celtic manager Ronny Deila, who bristles with discontent at the mere mention of Stokes in any press conference.
His treatment has not been great and you can certainly sympathise with him over his reaction. However he should have kept his frustrations to himself - rather than tweet them for everyone to see.
Some Celtic fans shared that sentiment on Twitter today and are happy that Stokes is currently out of the team.
But the majority felt the punishment was harsh, especially so when you consider that Kris Commons was not handed such a punishment when he lost his rag at the entire backroom staff after being substituted by Deila v Molde last month.
Here is some of the best reaction from Twitter...
think stokes 2week suspension seems a touch harsh without question now hes finished at celtic overall bn a gd player for us on the park— Andy hynes (@andyhy88) December 2, 2015
Quite shocking example of double standards from the Celtic board with regards to Stokes. Was Kris Commons behaviour not worse? @stoksey10— Colin Rae (@corae1978) December 2, 2015
Stokes was NEVER Celtic class on or off the park— SELT1K (@SELT1K) December 2, 2015
So Anthony Stokes has been suspended for 2 weeks by Celtic. So no training? Seems pointless and self-defeating.— Stephen Buston (@ferryhillbuston) December 2, 2015
Anthony Stokes keeps getting left out the team because he's the worst player in recent Celtic history. And that's saying something.— TomTomski (@TommyTomski) December 2, 2015
Canny believe Stokes gets suspended but commons just gets a telling. Too many people with short memories. Stokes n hooper were brilliant— Paul (@PaulyD1967) December 2, 2015
I have no love for Stokes but if he's getting 2 week ban well then so should have Commons no?— Rachel Lynch (@Rachel_Lynchx) December 2, 2015
Stokes tweets frustration at not playing - Suspended Commons goes mental live on TV at management - Rewarded with playing— Paddy Brennan (@PaddyBrennan7) December 2, 2015
I don't agree with what Stokes done but it's ridiculous that he gets suspended and Commons got off with his outburst which was well worse.— Darren (@ocbhoy) December 2, 2015
Stokes gets banned, Commons didn't. I'm not fussed about that. I know I would rather have Commons in the team rather than Stokes any day.— docs (@docccs) December 2, 2015
So Anthony Stokes told to stay away for 2 weeks. Why should he be treated any differently from Kris Commons?— Sean (@seanbhoy69) December 2, 2015
