Everton beat Middlesbrough 2-0 to advance to the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup.

Everton bounced back from their weekend disappointment at Bournemouth by beating Championship side Middlesbrough 2-0 in the Capital One Cup.

The Toffees played out a remarkable 3-3 draw against Bournemouth despite being 2-0 and then 3-2 up, but hit back in style against Middlesbrough.

Gerard Deulofeu produced a superb piece of skill to open the scoring, before providing a cross for Romelu Lukaku to head home after more trickery down the right hand side.

The result takes Everton in to the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup, joining Manchester City and Stoke City in the last four, with Southampton and Liverpool set to play later this evening.

Once again, there is no doubting who the stars of the show were for Everton, as striker Lukaku and winger Deulofeu continued their remarkable connection this season.

Of Lukaku's 13 goals so far this season, ex-Barcelona man Deulofeu has assisted seven of them, become Everton's dynamic duo in the final third.

During the game, legendary Premier League striker Alan Shearer praised Lukaku's headed goal, whilst ex-Everton midfielder Kevin Kilbane also took to Twitter in order to hail both Deulofeu and Lukaku, as seen below...
