The Spaniard was the star of the show on Tuesday evening, as he scored one and set up the other in his side’s 2-0 win over Boro.
He has been in impressive form all season since singing from Barcelona on a permanent deal, with a number of assists under his belt so far.
Karanka’s side are not the only ones to have struggled to keep the young Spaniard at bay this season, and he was full of praise for the Toffees man.
“Gerard, I have known him since he was 13-14 years old, and he plays in the same way that the play when he was 13-14,” he told Talksport.
“He plays with his spirit, with his character and he’s really good. When it’s his day, it’s difficult to stop him, he can surprise you.”
“For that reason, he is at Everton playing in one of the top Premier League teams.”
One are that has been particularly impressive has been Deulofeu’s assist record this season, most of them for Romelu Lukaku.
The Spaniard is second only behind Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil in the Premier League rankings, a clear demonstration of how well he has performed so far.
