Why a move for Henri Saivet would make perfect sense for Arsenal

Arsenal are said to be tracking the 25-year-old Senegalese player.

According to a recent report from the Mirror, Arsenal are one of the many clubs interested in signing Bordeaux player Henri Saivet, and while plenty of rumours at this time of year are ridiculous, this one could well have legs.

The Gunners’ recent injury crisis means January reinforcements are highly likely, but the kind of player manager Arsene Wenger wants is unlikely to be available midway through a campaign.

However, where Arsenal could hold the cards in any pursuit of Saivet is the fact that the player will only have 18 months left on his current contract in January, and Bordeaux will know that if they wait until the summer to sell his price will drop considerably.

Then there is the fact that Saivet is 25 and arguably still some way off his peak.

While signing a younger player would be a risk, the Senegal international would arrive at the Emirates Stadium resembling something akin to a finished product and that is what Arsenal need as they bid to win what is the tightest Premier League in years.

On top of that Saivet is just about the most versatile player you could find in the game right now – a right winger who is equally comfortable on the left or in attacking midfield who has reinvented himself as a deeper-lying player this season with huge success.

So what are you waiting for, Arsene? Make your move.
