HITC Sport understands Walsall are targeting Mansfield Town player-manager Adam Murray.
Mansfield Town player-manager Adam Murray is in the frame for the vacant manager's job at League One Walsall, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Walsall are beginning their search for a new manager after seeing Dean Smith leave the club for Championship side Brentford earlier this week.
Smith left Walsall after five years at the Bescot Stadium and the club are looking to bring in a young new manager to help continue their work done by Smith.
Murray has emerged as a contender for the role after impressing at Mansfield since taking charge in December 2014.
The 34-year-old is the youngest manager in the Football League and after steering the club to survival in League Two last season he is guiding the club to an unlikely promotion bid this term.
Mansfield are currently in seventh spot in League Two and Murray was rewarded with a new two-year deal in October for the impressive job he is doing at Field Mill.
Walsall are hoping to speak to Murray about the vacancy at the Bescot Stadium, but Mansfield are expected to try and keep hold of their player-manager.
