Robin van Persie really can't catch a break and was left in the shade of rival Fernandao once again.
Robin Van Persie's transition from Manchester United benchwarmer to Fenerbahce main man was supposed to be a smooth one.
However, after a game in which the Dutchman was once again left playing second fiddle for the Turkish side, it's clear that that is proving to be anything but the case.
And couple of damning tweets have highlighted just how bad the situation is for the former Arsenal man.
The 32-year-old had bagged just one goal in seven appearances going into a league clash with Trabzonspor.
And after getting the nod from Vitor Pereira to start the game, hopes were high that Van Persie could get back to scoring ways.
However, after 70 minutes without finding the net, the ex-Red Devil found himself hauled off in favour of Fernandao – his main rival for the central striking role at the club.
And, unfortunately for RVP, the Brazilian wasted little time in making an impression, scoring Fener's second goal in a 2-0 win.
A tweet from Turkish-football.com showcased just how clinical he had been:
Fernandao scores with his first shot on target! #Beast— Turkish-Football.com (@Turkish_Futbol) November 30, 2015
While this Opta stats revealed that, on current form, Fernandao is the main man for Fenerbahce with Van Persie a distant second:
All told, the Brazilian has bagged eight goals in 15 appearances for his Turkish employers – a superior return to Van Persie's six goals in 19 games.
Can the Dutchman now rekindle his form for Fenerbahce or is his career in Turkey now in danger of derailing?
