The Leeds United fans who urged the club to sign Jamie Vardy back in 2011

Jamie Vardy

Leicester City's freescoring striker Jamie Vardy is a phenomenon.

Jamie Vardy is a freescoring phenomenon for Leicester City, setting a Premier League record for goals scored in consecutive games.

Just four years ago he was playing in non-league football, and all credit to Leicester City for taking the gamble on adding him to their then Championship side.

Their faith has been repaid more so than they ever could have imagined, but spare a thought for the Leeds United fans who recognised his blistering talent, yet did not see their club take the gamble.

These Leeds supporters took to Twitter back in 2011 while Vardy was still at Fleetwood Town, to discuss his talent, and urge the club to make a move in the transfer market.

The £1 million fee was more than the Leeds of 2011, under Ken Bates, were willing to invest in any player.

Yet consider the way the club have languished in Championship mediocrity, signing Vardy could have made all the difference to their fortunes.

Even a year later there were supporters expressing their disappointment as Leicester were the ones to make their move...

Now Vardy is flourishing in the Premier League, breaking records set by Ruud van Nistelrooy, and is hoping to be part of the England squad to feature in 2016.

The Mail have reported that a Hollywood writer is even considering making a movie about Vardy's rise to superstardom.

Knowing they were right all along will be little consolation to the Leeds fans above, but perhaps club owner Massimo Cellino ought to  get in touch and ask them to become scouts...
