Leeds United lost 1-0 to Queens Park Rangers at the weekend.

Leeds United boss Steve Evans has admitted to the Yorkshire Evening Post that he had concerns over Giuseppe Bellusci’s performance against Queens Park Rangers at the weekend.

Bellusci started in the heart of Leeds’ defence against QPR, but he looked uncomfortable throughout – as Evans’ side fell to a 1-0 defeat.

And Evans admits that the Italian defender worried him at times, with the 53-year-old boss looking forward to Sol Bamba’s return from injury.

“Sol’s got a real chance of being ready for Hull,” Evans said.

“I must admit I had a couple of concerns with Bellusci in the second half [at QPR]. To be fair to him and [Liam] Cooper, we defended well – especially Cooper – but we’d love our captain back.”

Bellusci has received a lot of criticism over his Leeds career to date, for the erratic nature of his defending.

The 26-year-old has been guilty of making a number of errors during his time with the Whites, but he had played well under Evans up until Saturday’s game.

Bellusci had generally looked reliable over Leeds’ most recent matches, but it seems that he will drop back on to the bench at the weekend – when the Yorkshire side take on Hull City.

Bamba’s return will be a big boost for Leeds, as they look to get back to winning ways.

Leeds are currently in 17th place in the Championship table, just four points above the drop zone.
