Report: Klopp to stick with Bogdan ahead of Mignolet for Capital One Cup

Liverpool take on Southampton on Wednesday evening.

Jurgen Klopp is set to stick with Adam Bodgan instead of Simon Mignolet for Liverpool’s Capital One Cup clash with Southampton, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Bogdan is yet to make a league appearance for the Reds since moving from Bolton on a free transfer in the summer.

He has been a regular in the cup though, featuring in their two wins over Carlisle United and Bournemouth so far.

He put in top performances in both of those games, with a particularly eye catching performance against the Cherries in the last 16.

Klopp is set to stick with him for the quarterfinal clash with the Saints, and Bogdan says he will look to make the most of the opportunity.

“This competition has given me some fantastic memories already, and hopefully that will continue,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

“I want to play, absolutely. I wouldn’t come here just to sit around and just to be happy that I am here. I wouldn’t be here long with that attitude!”

“The only way I can see myself getting into the team, by playing well when I am given the chance. Whether that’s on Wednesday, or whenever, I have to do my best.”

Given how Bogdan has performed in the previous rounds of the cup so far, it is fair to say he is deserving of his place against Southampton.

However, with the cup very much up for grabs this season, Liverpool fans would likely prefer to see a full strength team to see them through in the competition.

With Belgian international Mignolet having come under scrutiny again this season though, perhaps it is wise for the German manager to assess his options against the Saints.
