Report: Newcastle United could drop Fabricio Coloccini for Liverpool match

Fabricio Coloccini has been in poor form for Newcastle United so far this season.

According to the Shields Gazette, Steve McClaren could drop some key Newcastle United players for their weekend clash with Liverpool.

Newcastle’s terrible performance in a 5-1 defeat against Crystal Palace has led to McClaren asking questions of his squad.

And he is reportedly thinking that dropping some of his higher profile stars may be an option, as he looks to inspire his time to climb up the table.

One of the players said to be most vulnerable to losing his place is Fabricio Coloccini, with the Shields Gazette suggesting that he could be dropped.

The Argentine defender has been in poor form over the campaign so far, and although he wears the captain’s armband, McClaren doesn’t feel the 33-year-old is undropable.

Another candidate to lose his place against Liverpool is said to be Moussa Sissoko, as the Frenchman has also disappointed over the campaign so far.

Newcastle are currently in 19th place in the Premier League table, meaning that McClaren is under pressure to find a winning formula at St. James’ Park very quickly.
