Phil Thompson suggested on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon (November 28) that Liverpool fans would not be wrong to believe that the team could win the Premier League title this season.
“I think there will be a few (fans), and I think you have seen the way the league is so topsy-turvy so they will believe,” said the Liverpool legend when asked if any Reds fans believe that they can win the league title this season.
“I still think that it is quite a lengthy process for this side and we should not get carried away.
"It has been good, It has been very good since Jurgen Klopp has been in, but I won’t get carried away, but I don’t see any reason why 50% of the Liverpool fans shouldn’t think there is still a chance.”
Liverpool are sixth in the Premier League table at the moment with 23 points from 14 matches.
The Reds are just four points behind fourth-place Arsenal, five behind Manchester United in third, and six behind leaders Manchester City.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are very much in the running for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season, and perhaps they could launch a challenge for the title.
City have the best squad in the Premier League, while United and Arsenal are better equipped than the Reds in terms of squad depth.
However, under Klopp, the Liverpool players have a newfound confidence, and that will be hugely important as the season progresses.
