Paul Merson believes Tottenham Hotspur need two new players in January

Tottenham Hotspur could spend big in January, to strengthen their bid for the title.

Paul Merson has told Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, which was broadcast on November 28th, that Tottenham Hotspur need to add two players to their squad in the January transfer window.

Tottenham have made a wonderful start to their Premier League season, and they are currently unbeaten in their last 13 matches.

However, Merson feels that their squad could come unstuck when injuries hit.

The former Arsenal midfielder claims that Spurs lack depth in their squad, but he also believes that the Lilywhites could experience a problem in January – as they are just building a new ground.

Merson believes that the expense of constructing a stadium could mean that Tottenham struggle to find the funds to invest in their playing squad.

“The problem is if they get injuries, whoever comes in is not going to be better,” Merson said.

“I would say that [they should sign a couple of players], but they have to watch their pennies.

“Tottenham are building a new stadium, and it’s going to cost money.”

Tottenham may be eager to spend in January, as they will want to strengthen their bid for a top-four spot.

The Lilywhites are on the verge of breaking into the Champions League places, and they are even being considered as outsiders for the title.

That highlights how far that they have progressed under Mauricio Pocehttino’s stewardship, and if they can bring in some added quality in January, then Spurs will be a real force to be reckoned with.
