Manchester United's second string defeated Liverpool earlier this week.
Manchester United’s first-team may be struggling for goals right now but their under-21 side looked in fine form as they overcame their Liverpool counterparts 3-2 on Monday evening.
The first half was a relatively subdued affair, with Belgian international Marouane Fellaini’s goal separating the two sides at the break, but a late flurry saw Nick Powell put United 2-0 up before Jerome Sinclair and Madger Gomes drew Liverpool level in the space of two minutes.
It looked like the clubs would take home a point apiece but Sean Goss had other ideas and his 89th-minute strike proved to be the winner.
Fellaini was undoubtedly the star of the show, scoring one and setting up the others, and while he is not every United fan’s cup of tea he certainly did his cause no harm this week.
Such is the quality of midfield options at Old Trafford this season that Fellaini has been used sparingly, often coming off the bench to add aerial threat up front if United are chasing the game.
On this evidence he is a good option to have in that regard, although he still has a way to go to win over every single doubter.
After the match we took to Twitter to see what United fans thought of Fellaini’s latest performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
Fellaini doing well for u21s doesn't bode well for Herrera. Hopefully last nights headlines were a made up story.— Red Army 68' (@MUFC_RA) December 1, 2015
@ParkRed Some goals , just watched them .. Fellaini looked good in the bit I saw. Great lay off for the last goal— Seanie_007 (@Seaniepc) November 30, 2015
MOTM tonight was Fellaini for me, but I thought Powell had a great match and poached a good goal, which his liveliness deserved!— Peter Booth (@PeterBooth53) November 30, 2015
Great finish by goss for the winner. That's the best I've seen fellaini play for a while— ⚽ G-SLEE ⚽ (@GSLEE1922) November 30, 2015
