Feeney was handed his under-21 debut in the contest by Unsworth, and the youngster put in a wonderful display.
Feeney, who is still only 16-years-old, started the fixture in the heart of their defence – and he put in a commanding performance, as Everton picked up a resounding 8-0 victory.
“Morgan has been terrific since he came in in the summer as a first year scholar,” Unsworth says. “He has got better and better with the Under-18s team as the season has gone on and it was nice to give him his Under-21 debut tonight.
“The lads gave him a round of applause at the end which was lovely because he is a smashing kid and we have high hopes for him."
Feeney is yet to make a first team appearance for Everton, which is hardly a surprise given his tender years.
There are still high hopes for his future at Goodison Park, though, and he has been identified as a player who could become a regular for the Toffees in the years to come.
Everton have a number of exciting youngsters currently breaking through, and their defensive prospects look strong.
Everton already have John Stones playing a vital role in their first team, while Mason Holgate and Brendan Galloway will hope to become regulars in the years ahead.
Feeney, too, will be aiming to follow in his teammates’ footsteps, and the ease with which he stepped up to under-21 level should stand him in good stead.
