Daryl Janmaat has told the Shields Gazette that nobody can accuse Newcastle United’s squad of not caring about the situation the club currently are in.
Newcastle have been criticised for showing a lack of fight throughout the campaign so far, as they have collapsed so easily in matches.
The Magpies have been guilty of buckling on numerous occasions throughout the season, but Janmaat doesn’t feel that the squad have an attitude problem.
“Everybody cares and everybody wants success," Janmaat said. "That’s what everybody wants.
“I don’t think that people don’t care. I cannot say there is one player who doesn’t care.”
Newcastle’s tendency to give in during fixtures was exposed once again on Saturday, as they fell to a heavy defeat against Crystal Palace.
The Eagles beat Newcastle 5-1 at Selhurst Park, and that defeat has raised further questions of the squad Steve McClaren has assembled.
The loss has also put Newcastle back into the relegation zone, and unless they are able to improve dramatically it will be difficult to get out of trouble.
McClaren’s side are already two points away from safety, and their next match comes against an in-form Liverpool side – meaning their fixture list is not doing them many favours.
