Charlie Nicholas predicts Middlesbrough v Everton

Middlesbrough and Everton will face each other at the Riverside Stadium in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday evening.

Former Arsenal and Celtic forward Charlie Nicholas has predicted on that Everton will win against Middlesbrough away from home on Tuesday evening.

Premier League outfit Everton will take on Championship side Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium in the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup, and Nicholas believes that the Toffees will win the encounter.

“Middlesbrough can be cautious but when they come out and play well, as we saw against Manchester United, they're a good side,” the former Scotland international wrote on

“They’re structurally well organised and that's why I thought at the start of the season they have to be serious promotion candidates."

“Everton, on the other hand, were all over the place defensively at the weekend and how they let Bournemouth snatch a point on Saturday was absolutely ridiculous," continued Nicholas.

“They're an exciting side going forward though and I do have a feeling that they could have a trophy in them.

“Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku are playing so well right now, while Arouna Kone is also dangerous. I'm going for them to edge another thriller here.”

A footnote added: “Charlie predicts: 2-3 with Kone to score first”.

Hosts Middlesbrough will head into the tie against Everton at the Riverside Stadium on the back of a 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town away from home at the John Smith's Stadium in the Championship.

Aitor Karanka’s side are one of the favourites to get promoted to the Premier League at the end of the season, and they will be tough to win against at home.

Everton are aiming for a top-six finish in the Premier League this campaign, and they will head into the tie against Boro with confidence.

Roberto Martinez’s side played out a 3-3 draw with Bournemouth away from home at the Vitality Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
