Since linking up with Palace in 2014, Scott Dann has become one of the best Premier League defenders, and John Salako has told talkSPORT that he should get his chance if he continues playing as he has been at Selhurst Park.
When asked if Dann could break into the England squad, Salako said: “I’d like to think so. Scott Dann is fantastic, he has been immense for us. I like to think if he just keeps playing, doing what he is doing, that he will get his chance.”
Dann signed for Palace in January 2014 from Blackburn, and has established himself as a key part of their recent successes.
He has played 65 times for the Eagles, and is a rock in their back-line. The 28-year-old is arguably the most consistent centre-back in the division, and whilst not the most naturally talented, is certainly among the top defenders in the top flight.
There have been calls for him to be included in Roy Hodgson’s England squads over the past year, but Dann has consistently been overlooked despite his form at club level, and there is a belief that he is not being called up due to the so-called ‘big club bias’ which surrounds English international football.
Salako believes the centre-back is good enough for England, and that if he continues with his fantastic form he must deserve a call-up before too long.
Euro 2016 may come too early for him, but if he is overlooked after the international tournament, it would be hard to refute the likelihood that Dann is not being called up due to bias.
