The Tottenham Hotspur centre-back had a game to remember against Chelsea on Sunday.
Tottenham Hotspur stretched their undefeated streak to 13 league games on Sunday when they drew 0-0 with Chelsea at White Hart Lane.
Given Spurs’ impressive form and Chelsea’s alarming dip, Mauricio Pochettino’s side would have no doubt been hoping for three points rather than one, but there were plenty of positives to take from the encounter, not least the outstanding performance of centre-back Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgian international has been great since he signed for Tottenham in the summer from Spanish club Atletico Madrid, but against Chelsea he stepped up another level and did absolutely everything right.
|Passing Accuracy||Tackles Accuracy||Effective Clearances||Duels Won||Interceptions Won||Ball Recoveries||Dispossessed||Fouls||Mins Played|
With a passing accuracy of 80 per cent he clearly kept his head in what was a challenging encounter while he won 100 per cent of his attempted tackles.
Even more impressively he was not dispossessed all afternoon and he did not commit a single foul.
On top of that the Tottenham player made nine effective clearances, recovered the ball on five occasions, won two duels and two interceptions, ensuring Chelsea had few clear-cut chances to snatch a victory.
Alderweireld was rightly named man-of-the-match by Tottenham’s fans after the match and on this evidence he is only going to get better.
