Newcastle fans vent their rage at 'embarrassing' Coloccini once again on Twitter

Fabricio Coloccini

Crystal Palace beat the Magpies 5-1 at Selhurst Park. Guess who played badly yet again?

Among the wealth of problems at Newcastle United, a failure to realise where a problem actually exists ranks quite high on the list.

The back four has been an issue for quite some time. Mike Williamson and Fabricio Coloccini both received huge criticism as a result last season. But how long did it take Newcastle to realise and subsequently ship Williamson out?

And what is Coloccini still doing in the starting XI, let alone still captaining Newcastle?

The Magpies defender once again underwhelmed as Crystal Palace thrashed Steve McClaren's men 5-1 on Saturday afternoon and is there really any surprise?

Yet again, it all goes back to Coloccini being rewarded for a terrible campaign last season... with a new contract. He has since performed just as badly, barring the odd glimpse of his old self. In response, McClaren has bizarrely lavished praise on his struggling defender.

This week, the Newcastle boss suddenly changed his approach to give his squad some 'home truths' in training and Coloccini wasn't happy about it. He then went and did what he usually does against Crystal Palace.

Granted, there are many other underwhelming performers for the Magpies right now. But will someone somewhere please show some backbone and drop one of the most out-of-form defenders in the Premier League?

Here's what fans said about the 33-year-old after another miserable display v Crystal Palace...
