Manchester United round-up: Ronaldo reportedly ready to return; Guardiola eyes Old Trafford post

Old Trafford 3

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

According to a report from the Sunday Mirror Cristiano Ronaldo is ready to return to Manchester United.

The £80m Real Madrid superstar remains a firm fan favourite at Old Trafford having blossomed into one of United’s greatest ever players during his time there, and following recent comments from manager Louis van Gaal that he would welcome the Portuguese international back to the club, Ronaldo is said to be excited by the prospect.

These reports need to be taken with a pinch of salt but there is no doubt Ronaldo holds a special place for United in his heart and if he did leave the Bernabeu a return to Old Trafford seems the most likely option.

In other news, the Sunday Telegraph reports that Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola sees United as his preferred next club.

The Spaniard has excelled since taking charge of the Bundesliga giants and with his current contract expiring next summer his future remains unclear.

Van Gaal would still have a contract then so United would have a big decision to make if Guardiola did become available, but this could simply be a cannily-timed report to coincide with possible contract talks at the Allianz Arena.
