The England under-21 international was allowed to depart on a loan deal which runs until the end of the season, a decision from United boss Louis van Gaal which did not please fans of the Premier League side, considering their current lack of options up front.
The Dutchman explained to United's official website that he believed long term, the move was right for Wilson, to allow him to get regular first team football under his belt.
Brighton won again at the weekend to maintain their surprise lead at the top of the Championship table, and Wilson played the last 25 minutes as a substitute.
Wilson almost scored too, hitting the woodwork with one of his two shots at goal. He also created one goalscoring chance, and his off the ball running caused worry for Birmingham City defenders as the Seagulls won 2-1.
The signs are good, and Manchester United supporters should take heart from the fact Brighton fans are very encouraged about his start. Here is a look at how they reacted on Twitter to his display...
James Wilson looks so dangerous running in behind defenders and took that chance so calmly, bloody post. So promising though. #bhafc— Kevin Ticehurst (@Brightonfan) November 28, 2015
James Wilson showed very encouraging signs today. The first striker in years who will look to make that run in behind the defence. #BHAFC— BHAFC News (@BHAFC_NEWS) November 28, 2015
