Tottenham Hotspur were held to a 0-0 home draw with Chelsea.
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele was arguably the best player on the pitch as his side drew 0-0 with fellow London rivals Chelsea at White Hart Lane.
The game drew plenty of attention ahead of the weekend with many hoping for a repeat of last season’s enthralling encounter which Spurs edged 5-3 with Harry Kane striking a double.
However, both clubs have changed somewhat since the New Year and Jose Mourinho’s men were content to sit back, soak up pressure and ultimately play for a draw from the outset.
Spurs were frustrated and created little throughout, yet there were still some notably positive performances with the defence on top and midfielder Mousa Dembele in particular playing very well.

As per the table provided by Opta Stats, the Belgium international was busy throughout as he dropped a little deeper in order to combat Chelsea’s threat through the middle.
Dembele contributed greatly in a number of key areas especially from a defensive standpoint, posting four tackles, five interceptions, five ball recoveries and a very impressive nine defensive duels won.
In possession, the former Fulham man was reliable throughout and always looked to get on the ball and make things happen, taking 74 touches and making 45 accurate passes.
Dembele’s best position has always been of great debate among Tottenham’s supporters, with the player very able as an attacking force but also comfortable with the defensive side.
Against Chelsea he played a little deeper and was tasked with providing penetrating runs through the middle, an area he excelled in as he produced three successful take-ons.
It was a top performance from Dembele, and his consistency of late has been such a major positive.
