Newcastle United are struggling for points in the Premier League at the moment.

Newcastle United winger Yoan Gouffran has admitted to The Chronicle that he and his teammates have been scared at times during matches.

“I think we have to play with some passion,” said the 29-year-old Frenchman. “Sometimes you can lose games but you must show something. The fans are disappointed because we don’t play 100%.

"Sometimes we look scared. We need to give 100% for the fans. You can’t win every game but we can’t lose like we did against Leicester.”

Newcastle were expected to push for a top-10 finish in the Premier League this season, but they have been terribly disappointing so far.

The Magpies are actually struggling for survival and are in real danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

While head coach Steve McClaren has been criticised for failing to get the best out of the team, the players need to bear responsibility as well.

There are some good and talented players in the current Newcastle squad, but for some reason they have all been underperforming.

While many will suggest that the Magpies are too good to go down, if results do not improve, then the threat of playing Championship football next season is going to grow stronger.
