The Romanian's controversial career is winding down in India.
The Romanian star cost Chelsea a fee in the region of €22.5 million (£15.8 million) back in August 2003. After scoring four goals in his opening three matches he went on to struggle for form.
With the arrival of Jose Mourinho his Chelsea career looked in jeopardy - the two publicly falling out in 2004. Then he failed a drugs test for cocaine and was banned for seven months, not before being released by the club.
He then headed for the relative haven of Italy - playing for Juventus, Cesena and most memorably Fiorentina - where he managed to fail another drugs test.
After a stint in France with Ajaccio the veteran striker went back to Romania, joining Petrolul Ploiesti.
Nowadays he is playing in the Indian Super League and the 36-year-old scored a fantastic goal yesterday which harked back to his early days at Chelsea.
He netted after dancing his way through a maze of Atletico de Kolkata players in the Indian Super League.
Unfortunately his side lost the game. Atletico won 4-1, with former Tranmere and Leicester forward Iain Hume scoring a hat-trick.
