Savage explains why he predicts West Ham to struggle versus West Brom

Popular pundit Robbie Savage predicts West Ham United and West Bromwich Albion to play out a 0-0 draw when the two teams face each other this weekend, he told William Hill betting.

The Hammers head into the encounter coming off the back of a 4-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur, a result which leaves them five points behind the top four.

West Brom, on the other hand, come into the game having beaten Arsenal 2-1 last weekend and, with just four goals conceded on the road all season, they boast a formidable defensive record.

West Ham are without the injured Dimitri Payet and Savage believes his absence will see a lack of creativity from the home side and another clean sheet for the Baggies.

“West Ham massively missed Payet at Spurs,” Savage explained. “The influence of Payet is what West Ham will miss so much.”

“West Brom have only conceded four away goals all season, but they’ve only scored three. This could be a 0-0 draw as West Brom will put men behind the ball and make it hard for West Ham.”

Dimitri Payet has been one of the signings of the season for West Ham, with the France international scoring five goals and adding a further three assists in 12 Premier League matches.

The Hammers aren’t just reliant on his goals and assists, but Slaven Bilic’s side look to get him on the ball as much as possible, and they ultimately shape their midfield around him.

In his absence, Manuel Lanzini has been asked to increase his contribution to the side, but it’s a tough ask for the Argentine to step into Payet’s shoes and take on added responsibility.

With West Brom so good at keeping things tight at the back, a lack of penetration from the hosts could prompt a frustrating afternoon in a game in which they should target all three points.
