Robbie Savage has suggested in his column for the Mirror that Leicester City’s current team could be the best Leicester side of all time and claims they have never had it so good in the Premier League.
The Foxes head in to this weekend’s fixture with Manchester United sitting proudly at the top of the Premier League table, having claimed 28 points from their 13 matches.
It has been a remarkable run from Claudio Ranieri’s side, and one which is even the more astonishing after considering they were many people’s favourites to go down this season.
Jamie Vardy has been in the goalscoring form of his life, Riyad Mahrez has been brilliant as a creative force and holding midfielder N’Golo Kante has proven to be one of the signing of the season.
Writing in his column for the Mirror, Savage stated that Ranieri’s side is at least challenging the very best Leicester teams before them and claims they have never had it so good in the league.
“They could even lay claim to being the finest side in club history. Either way, this side is challenging the team Martin O’Neill built as Leicester’s best in my lifetime, possibly of all time,” Savage wrote.
“Is this the best Leicester City side of all? Ranieri may have to put a trophy in the cabinet to claim that accolade, but in the Premier League they have never had it so good.”
Leicester’s reached three FA Cup finals in the 1960s, but most supporters would suggest the two League Cup victories in four years under Martin O’Neill was their best period in the club’s history.
Savage was a member of that particular Foxes team plying their trade at Filbert Street, and their cup victories were accompanied with top half finishes.
However, this current side has all the attributes needed to perhaps go even further and with Vardy in such a good goalscoring form, a top-four spot is surely within their grasp.
