Report: Tottenham to offer Townsend plus cash for Berahino

Another transfer story surrounding Tottenham and West Brom...

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to offer Andros Townsend plus cash in exchange for West Brom forward Saido Berahino, according to the Daily Star.

Tottenham only have Harry Kane as a recognised centre-forward, with Heung-Min Son, Clinton Njie and possibly Erik Lamela able to play up front but note genuine strikers.

And the Daily Star report that the north London side will pursue the West Brom forward once again in January, offering Townsend in part exchange for the 22-year-old. However, they suggest there are other rivals interested in signing both Townsend and Berahino.

Berahino best bet?

If Spurs want a new forward, Berahino may be the best realistic bet. But there are several issues when it comes to signing the Baggies talent.

West Brom are likely to demand a huge fee for Berahino, while he may not be happy with a place on the bench. With the current Tottenham squad in fine form, the 22-year-old would surely end up there at this moment in time.

Townsend, meanwhile, would likely benefit from a move to the Hawthorns but the Tottenham winger has shown no form whatsoever in the last few months, begging the question of whether West Brom would need him...
