Paul Merson offers his thoughts on Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Leicester City and Manchester City strikers.

Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson has explained in The Daily Star why Harry Kane is a better player than Romelu Lukaku and Jamie Vardy.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Kane has recently come into some good form and so has Everton man Lukaku, while Jamie Vardy of Leicester City has been banging in the goals left, right and centre all season.

Merson believes that Kane is the best striker in the Premier League, and has explained why he is a better footballer than his Everton and Leicester rivals.

“Former Jamie Vardy and Romelu Lukaku – Harry Kane is the best striker in the Premier League right now,” the former England international wrote in The Daily Star.

“Those three are the form strikers and they’ve all been scoring goals for fun. They’re all great players too. But with Vardy and Lukaku it’s all about getting their heads down and running at people.

“Kane is a better all-round player. He has more of a football brain. His link-up play is better, he works harder for his team-mates and he can pick a pass.”

Merson, though, has backed Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero to finish as the top scorer in the Premier League this season.

“But if you ask me who’s going to finish the season top scorer I still say Sergio Aguero,” added the Englishman. “He’s the only one I can see banging in hat-tricks on a regular basis. He’s not played a lot yet this season but he’s a goal machine when he gets going.”
