Former Liverpool player Steve McManaman told the Fletch and Sav show on BT Sport that Tottenham Hotspur will finish higher than Chelsea this season.
The two clubs are set to face off on Sunday, and they approach the game in quite contrasting form.
Tottenham have been brilliant so far this season, presiding over a 12-game unbeaten league run and securing some excellent victories, such as the 4-1 wins over Manchester City and West Ham United.
Chelsea, in contrast, have begun their defence of the title in quite disastrous fashion and after picking up just 14 points in 13 matches, many have already written off their title hopes.
McManaman responded on the Fletch and Sav show, saying: “I fancy Tottenham to do it. I think they’re too far ahead at the moment and Chelsea are not playing well, so they will continue to drop points.”
If Chelsea harbour any hopes of finishing above Tottenham this season, they must avoid defeat at White Hart Lane and prevent the gap between the clubs growing to 13 points.
Jose Mourinho’s side look unbalanced and lacking in energy this season, yet the same certainly can’t be said of Spurs as they appear fresh and hungry, despite their gruelling Europa League schedule.
Tottenham head into the clash having wrapped up a 1-0 win in Azerbaijan on Thursday night, giving the North Londoners only two days rest to prepare for such a big game.
