Jamie Carragher says only Sergio Aguero is better than Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge

Liverpool Daniel Sturridge is better than Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane but not as good as Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, Carragher claims.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher says only Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero is a better striker than Daniel Sturridge, the Daily Mail report.

The England international has dominated the headlines over the past 24 hours after Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp told reporters that his star striker needs to understand what real pain is.

Sturridge has been plagued by injuries over the past 18 months, and his presence has been sorely missed as the Merseysiders have often struggled for goals.

When fit, Sturrdige undoubtedly gives the Reds a huge threat up top and Carragher says not even Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane can compete with him when he is properly firing.

“When Daniel Sturridge is fit and firing, Sergio Aguero is the only striker who is better than him in the Barclays Premier League. That’s how highly I rate Daniel,” Carragher wrote in his column.

“I’m a massive fan of Kane but a fully-fit Sturridge is better. Daniel’s problem now, though, is that he’s being remembered more for injuries than goals.”

Tottenham supporters will certainly disagree with Carragher’s belief that Sturridge is better than Kane, especially considering the latter is the Premier League’s top scorer throughout 2015.

Kane has been superb for Spurs over the past 12 months, not just with his incredible goal scoring ability but the way he leads the line and links up with the likes of Christian Eriksen and Mousa Dembele.

In truth, it’s difficult to compare the two as they both have differing attributes and contribute to their respective team in different manners aside from their obvious goal threat.

Aguero and Sturridge, however, is a fairer comparison and only the most ardent Liverpool supporters would genuinely believe that their man betters the Argentine superstar up top.

City’s top marksman has scored 85 goals in 129 top-flight appearances at the Etihad Stadium, twice winning the club’s Player of the Year award and finishing last season as the top scorer in the league.
