Toure backs Benteke confidence to grow after Bordeaux display

The striker was impressive as he made one and scored the other in the 2-1 win over Bordeaux.

Kolo Toure has told Liverpool’s official website that Christian Benteke’s confidence will continue to grow after his display against Bordeaux.

The Belgian was selected by manager Jurgen Klopp to lead the line in the Europa League on Thursday, having battled back to full fitness.

He put in a top display as well, winning the penalty that saw his side draw level and scoring the winning the goal on the evening.

It was an impressive performance all round from the striker and Toure is expecting it to help build his confidence going forward.

“Christian is a top player. He was fantastic for Aston Villa and now he is coming into the team better and better,” he told

“For a striker, you need goals. He scored one goal and that will be really important for him and his confidence will grow.”

“We saw he was defending and fighting for the team. That’s what we need, we all need to fight for the same goals to win games.”

With Daniel Sturridge injured yet again, this is now a chance for Benteke to impress Jurgen Klopp.

The forward has been out injured until recently, meaning he has not had a chance to show his worth to the new boss.

His display against Bordeaux will certainly have gone some way to demonstrating his abilities and what he can offer the side.

However, there is still work for him to do, with questions still remaining over whether he can fit into not only Liverpool’s style, but the specifics of that required by Klopp.
