Slaven Bilic has told West Ham United’s official website that Pedro Obiang has been very impressive in training recently.
Obiang has been out with injury since the end of October, but he is closing in on a return to fitness now.
The defensive midfielder has been back training with the Hammers for the past week, and his performances have been impressive.
Obiang’s return comes at the same time as Alex Song, as Bilic’s midfield options at Upton Park increase considerably, and the Croatian boss is delighted to have both available for selection again.
“Alex is a great player, we also have Pedro Obiang coming back too,” he said. “The situations are a little bit different given the length of injuries they had. Pedro was only out for four weeks, now he is back and looking good in training.
“Alex is back in full training, he played ten minutes against Spurs and in training he is also looking very good. We have to be patient because his break was a lot longer, he hasn’t played for almost half a year, so we will have to make a decision between the two.”
Song is yet to make an appearance this season, but his return to fitness has been a timely boost following an injury to Dimitri Payet,
West Ham’s next match comes against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, and they will be keen to get back to winning ways.
The Hammers have lost their two most recent outings – against Watford and Tottenham Hotspur – but a win against the Baggies would protect their position in the upper echelons of the Premier League table.
