Rob Elliot has thanked Newcastle United’s supporters for their amazing support, in the Chronicle.
The Magpies have made a hugely disappointing start to the season, yet the club’s followers have continued to turn up in vast numbers.
And Elliot says that Newcastle’s squad now want to repay their fans for sticking by them, by ensuring that they improve in the upcoming weeks.
“It’s amazing, the amount of support we get," the goalkeeper said. "If we were allocated 10,000 every away game we’d probably take it. I just want to say a massive thank you to the fans. Every time they are there for us.
“Hopefully we can start repaying their support with some good performances like we have at times. Leicester can be a stark reminder that we need to be at our best every week, we can’t take anything for granted.”
Newcastle have always had one of the most loyal followings in England, but their supporters have been starved of success in recent times.
The Magpies have failed to live up to expectations over the past few seasons, and their performance this term has been very worrying.
As things stand, Newcastle are just one point above the relegation zone, and their displays have caused great concern around St. James’ Park.
Newcastle lost their last match 3-0 to Leicester City, and there was a lack of heart and spirit on display.
Steve McClaren’s side’s next match comes against Crystal Palace, where they will be desperate to improve for the supporters who make the trip to Selhurst Park.
