Reports claim that Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi would consider Manchester City move

His representatives have reportedly held discussions about a move to the Etihad.

The Sun are claiming that Lionel Messi would consider making a sensational switch from Barcelona to Manchester City, in a move that would see the Argentinian magician earn a staggering £800,000 a week.

Messi is reportedly unhappy at the Nou Camp, after the club's hierarchy decided to focus on agreeing a new deal with Neymar before they discuss fresh terms with the 28-year-old (as reported by The Sun).

While Messi's current contract - which expires in 2018 - includes a buy-out clause of an eye-watering £250m, The Sun claim that the Catalan giants would be open to selling their talisman for £120m, and the player's representatives have already held discussions over a move to the Etihad Stadium.

The prospect of Messi leaving the Champions League holders before the twilight of his career may have been unfathomable in previous years. However, his time spent of the sidelines with injury this season has provided Luis Enrique with the opportunity to take a glimpse at a potential post-Messi Barcelona.

And while any side would unquestionably be weaker without the playmaker, the form of Neymar and Luis Suarez suggests that Barca can remain the dominant force of European football. The pair have shared 23 goals in the top flight already this season - including three of the four strikes they put past Real Madrid in the recent El Clasico.

A move to Eastlands may be a long way off at best, but it appears that there may be a future in which Lionel Messi is not the star turn in Catalunya.
