The Belgian was the difference in their 2-1 win over Bordeaux in the Europa League.
The Belgian joined the Reds in a big money from Aston Villa in the summer, but has struggled to make an impact at Anfield.
That has largely been down to picking up a series of niggling injuries that have severely limited his game time.
He was the star of the show in the win over Bordeaux on Thursday evening, though, and Gerrard was full of praise for the striker.
“Benteke certainly gives Liverpool that different option,” he told BT Sport.
“He’s got that physical presence, that hold up play and he okay crosses into good crosses because he’s great in the air. He’s got an unbelievable touch for a big guy.”
Ever since Benteke joined Liverpool it has often been discussed how he would fit into their system.
That is still a prevalent question with Klopp in charge, with him looking unsuited to the high pressing game the German demands.
As Gerrard suggests, though, he does over them something different to what they have in the squad, and that could see him find his role in the side.
His performance against Bordeaux will certainly have caught the attention, and with Daniel Sturridge continuing to struggle for fitness as well, there is certainly a chance for him to nail down a starting berth.
