Gary Neville has reacted to the news that James Wilson signed for Brighton on loan, sending a series of tweets on his personal Twitter account.
People "Shocked" Wilson leaving on loan. Why? He hasn't played and is a lad who needs to play all the time at his age.Better for him and MU— Gary Neville (@GNev2) November 27, 2015
Lot of young lads end up age 22 with only 50 games under their belt through waiting in the wings. Get them playing and learning— Gary Neville (@GNev2) November 27, 2015
Rooney / Martial / Depay and Fellaini all in front of him at present in the managers opinion. https://t.co/JXi1cyyquK— Gary Neville (@GNev2) November 27, 2015
Wilson, 19, has played 20 games for United’s first-team, and seemed to be earmarked for a key role this season.
There was a belief that he was highly rated by Louis van Gaal, and with the dearth of quality in the striking options at the start of the season, many suspected that Wilson would be second or third choice striker.
However, Anthony Martial was signed, pushing him further down the pecking order, and Wilson has managed only two appearances - and 52 minutes of football - this season.
He has now linked up with Brighton, and if he can establish himself in Chris Hughton’s first-team, Wilson should benefit from playing consistent competitive football at a level which he is more suited to than the Premier League.
Wilson clearly has a lot of talent and a natural eye for goal, and there is a great chance he can make it at the top of the game, but right now, this loan move to Brighton was the best option for both the striker and Manchester United.
