Carlos Carvalhal confirms Barry Bannan won't be involved for Sheffield Wednesday against Blackburn Rovers

Sheffield Wednesday - The Owls

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan has been suffering with a knee injury.

Carlos Carvalhal has told reporters at his press conference on Friday that Barry Bannan will not play for Sheffield Wednesday against Blackburn Rovers at the weekend.

Bannan is on the verge of making a comeback from injury, but the Scotland international will not be fit enough to play on Saturday.

That will be a blow for Wednesday, but Carvalhal insists that he does not want to gamble over the 25-year-old’s fitness.

Bannan has been suffering with a knee injury, and he was forced to miss out on their last outing against Huddersfield Town.

His teammates coped in his absence during that contest, winning the match 3-1, but Carvalhal will be keen to have Bannan available for selection again soon.

Bannan has made a big impact since arriving at Hillsborough, and he looks set to play a key role when he does make it off the treatment table.

The former Crystal Palace man has already accumulated 13 appearances for the Owls, and his energy has been highly impressive.

Wednesday are currently sat in eighth place in the Championship table, and they are just one point away from the play-off spots.
