Ryan Mason was given a start in midfield as Tottenham edged past Qarabag.
Tottenham midfielder Ryan Mason was handed a start as Mousa Dembele was rested against FK Qarabag - but did he do enough to impress?
The England international has been working his way back from injury, and the form of Dembele and Eric Dier has made it tough for him to break into the team.
On the basis of the Europa League match in Azerbaijan, he could be waiting a while longer, looking laboured as Tottenham edged their way to a 1-0 win.
Spurs scored without Mason on the pitch, for he was withdrawn for Tom Carroll five minutes before Harry Kane netted the winner.
Mason to his credit had three shots at goal, with one on target, and completed 86 per cent of his passes.
What he did not do was create a single goalscoring chance for a teammate, or possess the physical dominance in midfield to which Tottenham have become accustomed to with the recent performances of Dembele.
Mason will hopefully feel the benefits of this game in future performances, as he recovers his match sharpness, but this was not one of his better displays.
Here is a look at how supporters reacted to his contribution...
Cant be a conincidence that the minute mason comes off we start playing decent #COYS— Richard Burnett (@exodan2000) November 26, 2015
Poor game from Mason, tried way too hard to show what he can do #COYS— K (@ThePochPress) November 26, 2015
Ryan Mason is such an overrated footballer. So wasteful with the ball. #COYS— Matt Hayes (@MattyHayes22) November 26, 2015
