Arsene Wenger has been reunited with one of his former stars, Edu, amid reports that the Arsenal manager is weighing up a January move for Alexandre Pato.
Edu is the current director of football at Corinthians, the club Pato plies his trade for, and, according The Independent, the pair have held talks over the striker’s future.
Full name Eduardo César Daude Gaspar, the Brazilian midfielder was part of the Arsenal side that went the entire 2003-04 season unbeaten in the Premier League.
Edu won three FA Cups and two league crowns under Wenger, before moving on to Valencia where his later career was blighted by injury.
Now in an administrative position with Corinthians, Edu’s pre-existing relationship with the Frenchman could prove key to any possible move for Pato.
A former AC Milan star who once thrived in Europe, Pato is thought to be keen on a return to the continent after impressing in his homeland.
Currently on loan at Sao Paulo, the 26-year-old has scored 26 goals in 56 games for the Brazilian giants and comes with plenty in the way of European pedigree after scoring nine goals in 28 Champions League appearances with Milan.
Though no fee has been mentioned, Arsenal could yet table a bid for the experienced striker come January and that could have a lot to do with the work of Edu and Wenger behind the scenes.
