Report suggests Aston Villa saw former Paul Lambert target Younes Belhanda in action this week

The Moroccan international is currently playing for Dynamo Kiev in Ukraine.

Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Younes Belhanda once again, as reported by ClubCall.

It comes after Villa had a scout present for the Porto v Dynamo Kiev game in the Champions League this week. The obvious reason for their presence would be to check up on on Aly Cissokho, in light of Jordan Amavi's injury. However he was not in the squad for Porto - so that seems to have not been the reason.

ClubCall therefore hypothesise that Dynamo Kiev attacker Belhanda might be the man they were checking out.

Of course it seems to be just a theory, but Villa do have previous in terms of approaching Belhanda.

Their previous interest came amid an almighty scrap for the then Montpellier star. The Moroccan had been a key member of the side back in 2011-12 as Montpellier won a tremendous title over their big-spending rivals Paris Saint-Germain.

In June 2013 the Birmingham Mail even quoted Belhanda as stating:

“I have told everyone that England will be my first choice. Aston Villa is a great club with a big history playing in the best league in the world, so let’s see what will happen.”

But he ended up in Kiev where he has repeatedly been linked with a move away - especially since the outbreak of war in Crimea.

Villa need more attacking impetus with Carles Gil flaky and Jack Grealish making more headlines off the pitch than on it.

Belhanda would certainly be a good option that Remi Garde would know well from his time in Ligue 1.

So perhaps the Moroccan should be on the radar?
