This weekend Tottenham Hotspur welcome Chelsea to Stamford Bridge with the hosts knowing they have a great chance of getting one over Jose Mourinho’s men.
The reigning Premier League champions are struggling this season and currently find themselves 15th in the table with 14 points from a possible 39.
In contrast Tottenham are fifth with 24 points, just four behind current leaders Leicester City, and undefeated in their last 12 league matches.
In short Mauricio Pochettino’s men are flying and much of that is down to the impressive form of Eric Dier.
The youngster switched from defence to midfield this season – a position he previously played while at Sporting Lisbon – and he has not looked back. But on Sunday Dier will come up against one of the best players in Europe in that area in the form of Nemanja Matic.
The Serbian international, much like many of his Chelsea teammates, is not having the best of seasons, but with their clash potentially deciding the encounter we take a look at the two players’ league performances to date.
|Passing accuracy||Ball recovery per game||Goals||Tackles won per game||Effective clearances per game||Duels won per game||Aerials won per game||Interceptions won per game||Mins Played|
As you can see the Chelsea player comes out on top in terms of passing accuracy, with 90 per cent compared with Dier’s 85 per cent, and Matic also outshines Dier when it comes to ball recoveries, tackles and duels won per game.
However the Tottenham player is out in front in other key areas, namely interceptions won, effective clearances and successful aerial battles per game, while Dier has two league goals to Matic’s one.
But all that will be forgotten on Sunday when Tottenham and Chelsea go head-to-head in a match they will both be desperate to win.
