The winger got mixed reviews from United fans but looked bright.
Manchester United have not exactly been exciting fans of late and they did not do so yet again last night as they played out a drab 0-0 draw with PSV Eindhoven at Old Trafford.
United had their chances but for much of the fixture it was yet more dire and slow build-up play which failed to tear PSV apart the way United of old would have.
But whilst the negatives were there for all to see, focusing on the positives is certainly a better way to deal with the result.
One such positive was the performance of Jesse Lingard.
He has recently played his way into the Manchester United first-team - much to the joy of the United purists who want to see academy lads in the first-team.
His recent good form even saw him called up to the England senior team recently.
The fact is Lingard did not do anything overly special and in fact he should have scored against the Dutch side. But his energy and effort is undoubtedly exciting for United fans in what has become something of a gloomy style of play.
Here is some of the best reaction from Twitter...
I can take Lingard making errors. He’s a kid finding his way & busting a gut. But collective effort was so poor from the team tonight #MUFC— Rob B. (@_Rob_B) November 26, 2015
Everything was going through Lingard. Who only recently started playing regularly for the first team #MUFC— Dave Saves (@20_Times_United) November 25, 2015
Lingard needs to start taking his chances...to many miss chances to finish off games #mufc— Amir Sham (@AmirSham2000) November 25, 2015
Not heard Louis' excuses yet.. Pity the best chances fell to Lingard, he's done well but still a kid. #MUFC— Stuart (@Juckylim) November 25, 2015
Lingard is a talented player but needs to improve on the quality of his finishing, misses too many big opportunities— Natalie (@Natalie_MUFC) November 25, 2015
That's Lingard's eight goalscoring opportunity since his comeback. Darmian - so far - showing glimpses of his August form. #mufc— Samuel Luckhurst (@samuelluckhurst) November 25, 2015
Smalling was class de gea was de gea lingard worked his arse of the rest need to take a good look at themselves #mufc— seb holmes (@sebholmes4) November 25, 2015
Lingard just keeps missing too many chances. It's good he gets himself into the position but he's not clinical enough. #mufc— Jeanette (@JeanetteEliz) November 25, 2015
Is there still any more deluded fans who think Lingard is actually good enough to play for #MUFC ?— Nadim #MUFC (@Nadim_UTD) November 25, 2015
Lingard was the second coming after his goal the other week now he’s not good enough cause he missed? Shuuut up. #MUFC— Matthew Galea (@mg91) November 25, 2015
