Colchester sack manager Humes

HITC Sport understands Colchester have axed manager Tony Humes.

League One strugglers Colchester United have sacked manager Tony Humes, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Colchester's board have decided to act just days after the shock home defeat to Crewe Alexandra.

Colchester threw away a 2-0 lead with 30 minutes to go as bottom of the table Crewe battled back to earn a surprise 3-2 win on Tuesday night.

Former youth team boss Humes took charge of Colchester in September 2014 replacing Joe Dunne at the helm.

He guided them to survival in League One last season with a dramatic 1-0 win over promotion-chasing Preston North End on the final day of the campaign.

After a bright start to the season, Colchester have slipped down the table after losing their last four games in League One with their only victory in the past month coming in the FA Cup against Wealdstone.

Colchester are now beginning their search for a new manager as they look for someone to lift them clear of trouble as they look to avoid another relegation battle this season.
