As he was a regular feature in Blackpool's matchday squad and looks to be no closer to a Derby first-team call up than when he was sent out on loan, the reasoning behind the recall is unclear. However, it has been announced on the club's official website that he is set to feature against Wolverhampton Wanderers under-21s for the upcoming game on Sunday.
Despite being a regular feature in the side, Thomas failed to register a single goal in 16 appearances for the Tangerines and the decision to recall the attacker could have been made to preserve his confidence and get him back among the goals at under-21 level.
It's been a tough season for Blackpool so far, following on from their dismal showing last season, and they could well be looking at back-to-back relegations.
The Tangerine fans had a mixed response to Derby's decision to recall Thomas overall, albeit the large majority not blaming Derby for taking action.
