Report: Sunderland approach Nils Bouekou, Tottenham also interested

Sunderland and Tottenham both reportedly want to sign Nils Bouekou.

According to France Football, Sunderland have made an approach for Nils Bouekou of Auxerre, with Spurs also hot on the heels of the youngster.

Bouekou arrived at Auxerre in the summer of 2014 from Paris FC, but his contract expires at the end of this season. There are no indications that he is ready to sign a new deal, and an exit in the summer is expected.

In fact, Bouekou has already started talking to teams who are interested in his signature, with the report stating that Sunderland have approached him concerning a contract offer.

The youngster is free to sign a pre-contract in January, with his deal expiring, and the Black Cats want to tie him down as soon as possible.

However, they do face competition from Tottenham Hotspur. The report claims Spurs have been tracking him, and whilst there is no reference to the Lilywhites submitting a contract offer, it is expected that they start talks in the coming weeks if their interest is concrete.

Who is Nils Bouekou?

Little is known about Bouekou, a 20-year-old midfielder from France. He is naturally a right-sided winger, and has spent this season in Auxerre’s second team.

He has played seven games, scoring only one goal, but is playing in a division with players much older and more experienced than him.

Clearly Spurs and Sunderland believe they see something in Bouekou to suggest he is a star of the future, and they want to tie him down as soon as possible.
